An artist takes his brush out and stands back from his canvas to consider his subject, and as he looks at the multicolored foliage posing gloriously before him, he is inspired to paint. Monet learned from the Master how to blend his colors well, and Autumn at Argenteuil was created.
Autumn is when colors splash along side country roads, multihued carpets are strewn on park trails and backyard scenes become works of art, all with a clear cerulean backdrop hanging behind in ideal contrast. Autumn is when our Creator’s green masterpiece is replaced with fiery reds that pop amongst sunburst yellows, and many tints of orange blend harmonious between the two.
Autumn is when orange pumpkins, all in different proportions lay in their private patches waiting to be picked, while their cousins, butternut and yellow squash are hiding out in savory casserole dishes, corn is being hung out for show, colorful gourds are peeking over wicker baskets, and red, yellow and green apples are sitting contently together in plain wooden baskets.
Autumn is when burgundy, yellow, and purple mums are set out in galvanized metal pots in front yards or on decks, and flowers like the purple alliums, bright anemones, and blue crocus are working together in unison to redecorate God’s earth for this bright and cozy season.
Many people will visit far away places just to witness this miraculous masterpiece of Creator God. The avid leaf watchers will drive to places like Galena and Gatlinburg. In Gatlinburg, they can gaze upon the Smokies, where the mountains come alive with a bounty of colors. They will get in their cars and drive, hop upon their bikes and ride, or get on their hiking shoes and hit the trails just to gaze on layers upon layers of Autumn’s hues, and every time they come, they are never disappointed, because when the Divine Artist gets out His paint brush, a masterpiece is inevitable.
Picasso knows it; Van Gogh knows it, as does Raphael.
