-- It was a day I can't forget.
And when you asked me for a date,
-- I was on time - but you were late!
And you got down upon one knee,
-- I wanted you to marry me!
And then when Mary Lou was born,
-- A sleepless night, a hectic morn.
And when we sent her off to school,
-- You were a sentimental fool.
And when you gave our girl away,
-- She looked so beautiful that day.
And little grandkids, one by one,
-- We've loved them, they've been so much fun.
But that long stretch when work was slow,
-- I got a better job, you know!
And when you took that nasty fall,
-- That's something that I can't recall.
And all those times I called you "fat,"
-- No, no I don't remember that.
The day I threatened I'd move out,
-- That's something I don't think about.
You don't remember what wasn't good.
-- Is there any reason that I should?
And what about this gray haired wife?
-- You made the memories of my life.
If I see Heaven before you do?
-- I'll count my days, remembering you.
