The ReTREEt

Ten years old, with pen in hand
And God’s Word by my side,
I walked across the park to find
A tall gray oak with branches wide.

It beckoned me to come inside
This tall gray oak with branches wide
To come away from pain and sorrow
To learn of God’s bright new tomorrow.

I sat, curled in the trunk so strong,
My back against the bark.
I read of love and power, too
That overcomes the dark.

A quiet place amid the noise
Of city life, I found.
This special place to be alone
With no one else around.

I marked with care God’s Word so true.
I felt His peace so clear.
A rush of wind came through the leaves,
God whispered in my ear,

“Here in this place, I’ll always meet
Face to face with you.
I’ll speak, and you will know I’m near
You’ll always know it’s true

That in retreat you’ll find me close,
Much closer than a brother.
You’ll learn of me from my own words
You’ll find that there’s no other

Place to be where you can see
The Beginning and the End,
And always know that I will be
Your dear and closest Friend.”

Sweet poem. Try to get your last lines of each stanza to have the same number of syllables.

Lovely poem. I enjoyed this although not normally a poetry lover. Thanks for sharing in this way. Well done!
