Dear Heavenly Father,

I need to talk to you today about my relationship with my mother. I’m aware that my mother was wounded as a child. She grew up in a day when what happened in the home remained hidden there. She believed children were to be seen and not heard.

As soon as she reached the age to escape her childhood home she took it. She desired some control of her life and believed marriage helped. However, she soon found herself pregnant. Fortunately for me, abortion wasn’t an option.

In her brokenness, she attempted to raise an energetic, strong-willed child. Clueless on the ways to do this, I ended up believing I was a bad person.

I know she had no idea the deep impressions her words made upon my young fragile heart. Yet with childlike faith I believed what she said.

“You’re a brat.”
“You’re impossible to please.”
“You’re old enough to know better.”
“If anyone is stupid enough to marry you, they won’t stay married to you. You’re impossible to live with.”
“Of course, I love you. I feed you, don’t I?”

My counselor told me that my belief system was messed up from my upbringing, and she wished to help me find truth. As a Christian she reminded me that I was a sinner but saved by grace. She encouraged me to seek you for my healing. As a wounded adult I now seek to believe what you say about me.

I’ve been declared righteous or good in Christ Jesus.
I’ve been chosen from the foundation of the world.
I’m filled with God’s Spirit.
I’m adopted into God’s family.
I’ve received an inheritance with Jesus.
I’ve been created and loved by God.
I’ve messed up, but I’ve been forgiven.
I've been declared to have value and worth.
I’m a work in progress.

Father, I need your healing. I want to truly live for you and to passionately love with your compassion.

With a weak and determined faith I surrender my hurts and heart to you.

Love from one of the daughters of the King of Kings!

A very sweet and honest prayer to the Almighty. I liked the list you made of the changes you found in yourself after finding the Lord. From bad to good. Nicely written, except I would suggest you Capitalize "You" when speaking of, or to the deity. Good job.
