Who Let You In?

“What are YOU doing here?” Umf, as if I need to explain.
Who does HE think he is?
“Who let YOU in?” and what an annoying voice – so, vain.

“Well, are you someBODY?” Oof, has he smelt HIS b-o-d-y?
“Have you done anything?” “Are you anyone great?”
Does he have anywhere else to be? Just who is HE?

“Hey, I’m talking to YOU!” Does he ever quit?
“What gives you the right – If you have one at all?”
If I ignore him, maybe he will get the hint.

“This is a special road, only for the elect and pure.
Many thought they knew the way but found it too narrow
and became unsure.”

“So what are YOU doing here and who let YOU in?
I know what you did last summer and
I can name your every hidden sin.”

“Can you read music and do you have a nickname?
My band is DaCV and my friends call me Arte.
Did you get here by blowing your own horn?
Or did you get in on another’s fame?

The air chilled a bit and whipped leaves across the door.
I gave another gentle tap, waited…, and waited…as before.
Then I heard Arte, “Knock! Knock! Will the door open?
Knock! Knock! Is anyone there? You’re still alone, forevermore!”

Suddenly the door opened – a light flashed around.
There standing before me, was the One in whom I’m found.
Arte hissed and mumbled, snickered and howled, but
the voice of many waters rang out and silenced his mouth.

He took my hand as I entered in across the threshold.
I turn to close the door but stop to face the voice that
taunted me with endless questions and fates foretold.
Preparing for one last attack, surely to do me in, he proudly sets to release.
But what he sees drops him to his wicked, scheming knees.

The dreary coat he spit upon as I waited patiently
had changed into a righteous cloak of His Majesty.
The eyes of fire pierced his lips, thus he could not speak.
These very eyes melted my heart, thus I wept before His feet.
And in the thunder it was heard
“Gaze and see the One who paid the price.
Such a price, which gives the right to enter here!
I have called for the elect and the sure,
My eyes are searching to and fro.
My finished work on the cross is the passport
into this eternal kingdom of My Almighty God and Father.
Enter in and taste and see the goodness of your LORD.

John 14:6 ~ "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (ESV)
