i

In the beginning
hovering over
the stillness of time
the Triune Voice
in harmony of love
sang light,
sang being into being.
A jewel-toned planet
flickering with life
flew like a clear high note
from the throat
of God.

ii

All was silent in heaven.
Wrapped in a dark pall
creation spun upon itself
turning year on year
always away from its Creator,
once-shining disc
a mirror cracked and blackened
in sin’s smoke.
Love grieved.
And reached.
And planned.

iii

Down and down. . .
Everything into nothing;
Fullness emptied.
How?
To become what One is not
and yet Be,
naught but a spark
in a baby’s unfocused eye.

iv

He was hidden
for our transgressions.
A breath in humanity’s
collective gasp,
his tiny life
was lost in the depths,
sighed into the dark
where all before had disappeared
in death.

v

But then—
THEN!
And
NOW!
Again exalted
Love shouts triumph
in glory upon glory:
all praise and wisdom and thanks
and honor and power and strength
to God,
and Grace,
holy Grace,
once more forever
in the highest place.

This was my favorite line:
A jewel-toned planet
flickering with life
flew like a clear high note
from the throat
of God.

Although I think this piece was a little light on the topic, I enjoyed it.

Oh, I caught the topic here loud and strong--excellent free verse poetry! Loved it!

I can't write free verse and usually don't understand it, but you actually got throught to me. I also loved that same part. Thankkkkks.

Lovely! A mighty lesson with so few words.

Simply beautiful, from the heights of God's grace to the depths of His cherished human race. You are a poet through and through.
Lollie Hofer 04/14/09
I do horrible at writing free verse so I really appreciate it when someone does it with success. The words flowed beautifully to a glorious conclusion. Thoroughly enjoyed the powerful message it sends. You are a talented poet with a unique gift. Enjoy it!

I enjoyed this so much. You gain good control with words. Deep and very special.
