Do echidnas ever wonder
Why they look the way they do
Why their stubby legs can't bounce
Like their neighbor kangaroo?
Do they wonder why a spiky guy
Stares back in their reflection
Why no one told the stylist that
Their hair needs some correction?
Do echidnas ever gripe
About another meal of ants
And wonder if there's something new
That might be worth the chance?
Do echidnas see their pointy snout
As something in the way
Or are they glad to roam the land
And vacuum up each day?
Do they ever feel peculiar
As a mammal who lays eggs
And grows its baby puggle
In the pouch above its legs?
Do echidnas ever watch an eagle
And wish that they could soar
Above Australia's forests
And glide from shore to shore?
Do they wonder why they waddle
Like a penguin or a puffin
And bear a strong resemblance
To a needle-bearing muffin?
Do people ever think that
We could learn a thing or two
From this oddball of a creature
With a different point of view?
He's content since God takes care
Of His creation large and small
So who are we to argue
With His purpose for us all?
