The reason for the season can be many,
The reason for the season depends,
Upon the heart and mind,
The life of human kind,
The reason for the season often bends.

The reason for the season to a young child,
Is anticipation of a favorite gift,
The smiles and joys which swell,
As happiness does dwell,
Their giggling brings us a precious lift.

The reason for the season to the merchant,
Is read in all the profits they bring in,
They hope this money brings,
Income for needed things,
For both employees and their own dear kin.

The reason for the season to the dandy,
Is to dress in formal wear and to be seen,
Doesn’t matter where he goes,
Doesn’t matter who he sees,
All that matters is to say that he has been.

The reason for the season to the downcast,
Is to renew some hope in wounded lives,
To watch others in their joy,
And recall as a girl or boy,
Memories which lighten the dark skies.

The reason for the season to the Christian,
Is to share Good News of Christ, God’s only Son,
To look to Him each day,
And, ask Him as we pray,
To be born anew in us as each day dawns.
