Topic: Christmas Cards (11/06/08)

TITLE: His Christmas Card

As the holiday season again draws near,
It’s time to send cards to spread holiday cheer.
But sending those cards means buying them first--
And finding the best means reading the worst!

I don’t want cards that say nothing at all,
Or cards that say Christmas is about the stuff at the mall.
I don’t want cards with reindeer or a drunken Santa--
Or something that makes me reach for Mylanta!

I’m looking for cards that mention Jesus by name,
Cards that tell of His love and why He came.
Something simple, yet wonderful, like that Holy night
When God’s star and His angels made the skies bright.

“Joy to the World!” and “Peace on Earth”
Still convey little of the Savior’s birth.
Instead of a message of Hope, we hear
Of best wishes for the coming New Year.

Why can’t we say why the world has joy,
And openly celebrate this baby boy?
Because the boy grew up to be the Son of Man--
And acknowledging Him means there is a plan.

God’s plan went beyond that first Christmas morn
To the cross, and the reason that the Christ was born.
Easter’s a bit harder to explain away--
Jesus said He was Truth, the Life, The Way.

So I want Christmas cards that set Him apart,
Cards that reveal His Father’s heart.
I want cards that reveal so great a love
For us, that He left Heaven above.

And if I can’t find them, then Lord may I be
A living Christmas card for all to see?
Humble my heart, and teach me to give
So that I point to You as long as I live.

What a wonderful poem. And that last part is so true. We are a living card pointing the way to Jesus. I could never have written this. Way to go!

Congratulations! Your poem brought me back to the basics and "the reason." Thank you and good job.

Congratulations! I'm not much on poetry, but this one captured my thoughts.
