TITLE: An Adventure In Virtue
By Judith Gayle Smith

The Advent season - looking backward over 2000 years to the birth of Jesus, the Christ - the Anointed Holy Son of the Living God.

Jesus desires to present us to His Father - sinless, without blemish to glorify God.

Many think He came only to save us from God's holy wrath. Jesus had another mission - freeing us from Satan's death grip!

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth (obeys) not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

His Grace enables us to obey God! Jesus offers His grace to perfect us in holiness:

Strongs 5485(in part) ca,rij charis {khar'-ece} from 5463; TDNT - 9:372,1298; n f AV - grace 130, 2a) of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues 3) what is due to grace 3a) the spiritual condition of one governed by the power of divine grace 3b) the token or proof of grace,

We, as His adopted children, must appropriate His grace, His power for strengthening us to be obedient, demonstrating our love and faith for Him.

This is often confused with works. Works from faith growing ever stronger in Jesus are not considered works as we mere men see them. Faith is proving our love in actions as well as words.

The Advent - short for spiritual adventure? What better adventure is there than losing ourselves and gaining the Christ? He must increase - we must decrease.

This is a time for reflection as well as joyous praise. We need to see ourselves as our most holy Creator sees us. As Christians, we will be the first to be judged by Him.

Are we really ready to stand before Him at the Judgment Seat of Christ? Are we counting on His shed blood to cover and shelter us from what God sees in us?

I need a newborn's innocent purity - we get old rapidly, believing we know everything there is to know about life - forgetting our dependence on His Holy Spirit given us to lead us to righteousness in and through our Messiah. We need reminders of Whose we are and why we were created.

Psalm 19:12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

To me, the true "unpardonable sin" has been to reject the proddings of the Holy Spirit to convict me of sin and to lead me to repentance and acceptance of our Savior. Rejecting the Holy Spirit to remain in sin is a very great rejection of all things holy.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries 28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Very good truths to remember. And thank you for using KJV.

Many scriptures quoted, definition of grace given and judgment proclaimed, but not strong on the Advent season topic given.
