Flashing My Light
Camping out on the banks of the White River was a great experience in “roughing it”. It was my first skill at primitive camping. Bedroll and a campfire were the amenities. As, I sat by the campfire enjoying the peace and quiet; I was amazed at just how very black the night was. The campfire provided some light and the flashlight, I held in my hand. I used that beam of light to piece that blackness. I circled round and round. Wait a minute! The beam of light reflected back the small eyes of some animal. I circled again. Aha there it was again! What was this animal, I have encountered? It began to be a little game. Flash off and then flash on to find those eyes staring at me. This was fun, I thought. Well, this animal (still to this day, I do not know what it was) thought this fun game should end! To my horror and shock, it came at me! I stumbled back (into the fire) and knocked over the coffee pot, which held simmering water. What a sight I was and what noise I made in that still night! I was unharmed, but I really did get the be jeepers scared out of me! Could there possibly be a moral to this story? I think so. Expect a reaction, when I shine my light into the darkness!
