Snap is such a clever word
so versatile, expressive,
it describes so well when I
am grouchy or obsessive.
Don’t tell me to snap out of it
when I am feeling blue,
I might just snap your head off,
and then what will you do?
But then I’ll make a snap back,
I’ll recover my aplomb,
I’ll snap my fingers, tap my toes,
and sing a snappy song!
Or maybe I’ll snap to it
‘stead of lounging in the sun,
I’ll just whistle while I work, you see,
and Snap! The job is done.
Our bodies use this wondrous word
but just a few I’ll mention,
so you won’t miss a single one,
now, please snap to attention.
Our eyes will snap and sparkle
when we’re happy or we’re mad,
our mouths snap shut to keep us
from those words we know are bad.
Our fingers snap to music,
and when good ideas form,
we snap to get attention,
or derisively, in scorn (Oh, Snap!)
And when we’re feeling snappy,
doing great and looking good,
there’ll be a snap in our footsteps
to match our lively mood.
So, I hope that I have given snap
the honor it is due
because this little snip-snap
of a poem is all through.
