“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.”
Genesis 1:31(NKJV) Adam, his original masterpiece, God saved for the sixth day.
Created in His own image, this first man of dust was assigned the daunting job of
naming all other living creatures. It proved to be a lonely task, however: he found
no special companionship among the animals. God had an incredible plan though!
In exchange for a rib, Adam received a special gift, Eve, the mother of all living
beings. This original mom had no Dr. Spock book to help raise Cain and Abel. She
didn’t know how to resolve sibling rivalry but grieved the loss of one son, murdered
by another. Loss was not new to Eve though. Breaking God’s command against
eating of the tree of good and evil had already cost her the Garden of Eden. Her
new life outside paradise had brought her pain in childbirth and dependence upon
her husband for survival. She would watch him toil the earth and eventually return
to dust as a thanks for his labors.
Thankfully, God had an original plan, conceived before the creation of the world.
He would join the race of man as a baby, born in a Bethlehem stable. To reverse
Adam’s plight, He would walk sin-cursed earth to die on a cross, wrought by His
own who wouldn’t accept Him. Even though all mankind would die physically, due
to Adam and Eve’s choices, all could live eternally through faith in Jesus Christ.
Only God could have planned such a creative solution to the problem of original sin
and earthly death.
