Old brother Jonah tried to hide from the Lord,
didnít want to preach to the Nineveh horde;
his ship was caught in a mighty gale;
Jonah wound up in the belly of a whale.

The Lord told Jonah, ďYou silly man,
you canít hide when Iíve got a plan;
the Ninevites are my children, too,
and that is why I have chosen you!Ē

You can run, but you sure canít hide
for Godís will wonít be denied;
heíll seek you out like a heavenly hound,
for Godís will is salvation bound.

The Lord found Elijah trembling in a cave
trying to hide from that Jezebel babe;
the Lord said, ďElijah whatcha doing here?
Come on out, youíve got nothing to fear.Ē

God sent an earthquake and a violent storm,
the rocks were split and the hills were shorn,
after the fire came a soothing noise,
the quiet whisper of Godís gentle voice:

ďYou can run, but you sure canít hide
for My will wonít be denied,
Iíll seek you out like a heavenly hound,
for My will is salvation bound.Ē

Now all you folks just take it from me
you can hide, but our God will seek;
God wonít rest Ďtil heís found each one
and brought us all to his heavenly home.

You can run, but you sure canít hide
for Godís will wonít be denied,
heíll seek you out like a heavenly hound,
for Godís will is salvation bound.

Interesting how you were able to weave so many incidents in the Bible in this piece. Good job.

Its pretty interesting that they (and we) continually try to hide, but God always finds us!

For some reason, I "heard" this poem in the rap style! And enjoyed it!

Yes, I agree it's a great little rap number with a lesson in there as well. Good writing.

Nice poem - good pattern, rhythm, flow, message carried clearly. In music terms, I felt this in a 2-count pattern (emphasis on the 1st beat). Nice slant on the topic. Good job. :)

I LOVED this catchy little rap song. Made me want to get up and get my groove on jammin' to the tale of Jonah. Very entertaining! I'm rooting for this one to place, because it's just so much fun.

Cute but be careful, run, run, run, but you sure can't hide...ball of confusion. God has often used Jonah's story to get to me.
