Gloooooryyy! This is some gathering...nice place. Very nice. She steps cautiously forward.
Where am I? How did I get here? I can’t even remember my n-name. Another step forward...I’ll just act like I belong and hope a memory of something comes back.
Observing some people greeting each other with recognition, her mind wrestles with the unknowns, searching for something...anything familiar.
Seeing a man surrounded with people...I think I know him; somehow, I do know him. Don’t even know who I am, but I know him.
Their eyes meet then he steps towards her.
“I’ve been expecting you,” he says softly.
“M-m-e-e-e?” she stutters, her face showing surprise. “I, uh, I could use some help.”
“Help?”
“Yes, you see, I’m not sure how I got here or where this is. I don’t even know...well, who I am!”
With eyes twinkling, he smiles and points to a page in the book he is holding so she can see.
“That’s my name?”
“Yes. What seems unclear to you now will soon become apparent. Come, meet a few of the family. Your...our...family.”
“Mother. I think I remember mother.”
“She hasn’t come,” he responds, leading her to the group which warmly welcomes her.
Home. This is my home. Joy lights her face.
For some it is a reunion of relatives and friends whose names were found written in the Book of Life1.
For her, as with millions of other aborted babies, it is more accurately a union, defined in one dictionary as: the state of being joined or united or linked.
