TITLE: With Murderous Intent
By Kenneth Heath

With Murderous Intent

Shutting my ears, to my wife’s pleading and our children’s cries, I walked out the house, shotgun in hand. My heart was set on murder. I was out of control. ‘They’ had set fire to our property twice in the middle of the night, attempting to burn us out. They had even left their “New Age “ occult symbols outside the front door as “calling cards”. Finally the weariness of fighting those fires, my pneumonia and the financial implications of the damage incurred, had gotten to me. This was personal, and I was going to take them out!

As I opened the front gate, I heard my wife, calling me. Raging out of control, at first I ignored her, until I heard her say, that Colin my younger brother who lived a thousand miles away was on the telephone.

“ What does he want?” I screamed.

“He says, that God says, what ever you are going to do…. don’t do it!”

The words punched me in the solar plexus taking my breath away. How did God know what I was intending to do? The thought stopped me in my tracks and I returned to the house to speak to him. I outlined the “war” we were having with the New Age on the mountain, where we ran a trading store. He listened to our problem and requested that I didn’t do anything foolish. He had friends in a nearby town about two hours away and he would organize that we get help the following day. I thanked him and put down the phone. The relief of knowing that help was on its way deflated my anger. I locked my shotgun in the safe, climbed into bed and slipped into an exhausted sleep.

I awoke the following morning with a spring in my step. Help was on the way! I had deliveries for the local forestry camp and on returning my wife informed me that a couple had phoned and would be coming to see us in the late afternoon. There had been quite a bit of snow, so I went off to do deliveries to all the elderly folk, who could not get out of their properties. On my return to the shop, my wife came out to the truck and asked me not to be angry. Immediately I became angry and asked her why? It turns out that my brother had phoned a Pastor friend, who had arrived with his wife and baby twin boys. My blood pressure went through the roof, I had asked for ‘muscle’ and he had sent a minister. In spite of my anger, I was polite to this Man of God and his wife, and asked them to join us for supper.

A fire crackled in the hearth and while eating a delicious meal that my wife had prepared, we told them our story. The headquarters of the New Age movement in South Africa was on our mountain. I had seen fit to make fun of their movement and the weird things they did. Naturally they saw us as a threat and turned on us, using the occult and other methods to try and chase us off the mountain. Hence our present predicament and why we had summoned help.

They then counseled us, explaining that the only solution to our problem was to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Totally drained and exhausted my wife and I, having nothing left to lose, surrendered our lives to the Lord. They presented us with a Bible and left promising to pray for us and to follow up as soon as possible.

Well the rest is history, that very night the Bible became alive, as dear Holy Spirit led us through it. Suffice to say our adventures with the Lord would fill a large book, and that for the past eighteen years my family and I have served the Lord.

Just think what might have happened if my dear brother had not phoned with his “word of knowledge”. My unchecked actions could have resulted in the gallows or life in prison and the destruction of my lovely family. Approximately two years after we had moved away, a large forest fire devastated the mountain. The fire totally destroyed the New Age center, yet left Christian’s homes across the street untouched.

Romans 12 vs. 19 “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

Wow, lots of suspense here!

There were some unnecessary commas, and a few other places where commas were needed...sorry about that, I'm a comma fanatic.

I hung on every word here, and loved how it turned out.
