He stood 6'0, was broad at the shoulders but had a slight hunch from holding on to the pulpit for over 40 yrs.
At age 65 his face was that of a bulldog and weathered from being a traveling evangelist, yet his eyes had a sparkle that could light the darkest room. Everyone that knew him would tell you that whenever he walked in to a church, he brought Jesus in with him.
He had a low, gruffy southern drawl type voice with a demeaner to match, yet when he opened that wore out ole' bible and bgan to preach, the Holy Ghost was all over him.
He would always pause and pray before delivering his message giving thanks to God for each opportunity to serve and bring the word to others.
I can hear his words so clearly even today,,"Our Father marks the fall of the sparrow and every man is His child. So my children, let not your hearts be troubled for the Lord is good and His mercy endureth forever. And don't go worring about what tommorrow is gonna be, just have faith in God that holds tommorrow. Ain't no use in fretting over unrealized dreams, or getting upset cuz things ain't working out the way ya planned. That's all a bunch of foolishness, and it leads to vanity and vexation of spirit. All we gotta do is trust in Him who knows the best and lean on our Father to take care of all the troubles. For God and God alone decides your destiny, and He has nothing but your best interest in mind. You ain't gonna change a thing by worrying cept to make yourself sick. Now, listen here, God will give ya many opportunites to grow, but you gotta take em and be the one to step thru that door. For just like in the days of Noah, when God opens the door, no man can shut it, and when He closes the door, no man can open it. So don't go trying to kick open a door you ain't suppose to go through, you only gonna cause yourself more anguish and sorrow. Rather lean on Him and wade deep into His love and let God bring ya those things He wants ya to have. Then your joy will be full and you heart shall rejoice in all things.".....Let us pray!
I know this is a condensed version of what my Uncle, Reverend Altman Jones preached, but as an ordained minister myself now, I still hear his annointed message of "It's gonna be allright, cuz God knows all about it."
