Six years ago there was a growing concern that the world's computers would stop working. People hoarded food and generators and wondered if this could be the end of our civilization. It was not. Instead the world continued on its way, and people took for granted the things they thought they could have lost.
What have we learned since that scare? What have been the personal scares we faced individually? Have we learned to trust God through times of threatened or actualized personal loss? These questions force us to look at the past and evaluate what we've learned.
The warcry of America is not of Y2K, but of 9-1-1. No one died as a result of any computer errors, but many died in the tragedy of 9-1-1. But even in this tragedy, many Americans demonstrated bravery in the midst of a terrorist attack. Bravery continues to be demonstrated by loved one who are sent to Iraq.
On a personal level, there are many losses we cannot understand--loss of jobs, personal relationships, health and loved ones, all bring their own form of stressors. During such times healing is needed. The Lord promises in Psalms 107:19; "They cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses"(KJV). As humans, we need to cry to God when we are overcome by fear. He may not take us away from the situation, but does promise to take away the fear as we put our trust in Him.
And so with each new year with the Lord, there is no thing to fear, but only to fear and honor the Lord. He is the one who divided the day from the night and created to sun and moon to be signs for days, months and years.
