“Why did the flowers look so different? Their colors were …well, I can’t explain it, more colorful but the same colors. I don’t know, more beautiful some how.”

I had been having a small Bible study with some residence a local nursing home when the subject of what Heaven might be like came up. One of men experienced a vision or dream about “walking” in the air over a field of flowers. It was of Heaven, he didn’t doubt, and was trying to describe how beautiful the flowers were. He recognized each type of flower and named its color but could not adequately say why the colors were so much more vibrant, pure, and brilliant. His list of color adjectives went on and on but still left him feeling inadequate in describing their real dimension of color. Some one else had a similar experience and never mentioned it before as he, too, could not give a clear example or reason for the difference in colors he saw. We discussed this for awhile but we ended the meeting without a good explanation.

I gave this much thought over the next week and hoped (prayed) to have an answer for them by the next Sunday. Nothing was coming to me until Saturday night when my wife arrived home. It was dark and I went out to open the front gate which was under the field flood light. As she drove through the gate I noticed some flowers in the lawn with an unusual color. When I approached them I recognized them as Bachelor Button, just weeds. I thought, “Why did they look so different?” Then it hit me, of course, the field light combined with the headlights gave it a different hue. That’s it! Everything is going to look different in Heaven because we will see them in a different Light, God’s pure Light, for He is Light.

I had their answer and picked the flowers to take with me as a visual example. I was excited. What fortunate timing to see this!

The next morning I arrived early for the Bible study. I got out of my vehicle and thought, “I need to explain to the men what these Bachelor Button flowers were for. They had been planted in our area decades ago as forage to feed sheep.”

I had no more than finished the thought when God said, “I just fed you!” I knew He was calling me one of His sheep and He had just “fed me” with a heavenly truth. Yes, He had fed me with literal sheep food in two ways: by the sheep forage flower’s example and revealing why everything will look different in Heaven – because of the pure Light of God. I also felt a quivering or shaking in His words, I sensed and knew God was laughing.

I stood in the parking lot looking up, laughing and the Light laughed with me.

Excellent!

Take a look at the first sentence of the second paragraph--did you mean "residents of..." instead of "residence..."?

Love your title, and your unique lesson.

Wow! I love the image of God laughing! Can't wait to see that someday. This is a very good devotional. It makes two excellent points and kept my interest from start to finish.

I just love this, Clyde! The Lord surprised you with such a lovely "lesson" to share with your Bible study group. (And, your "discovery" rings so true with some of my own experience of the Light.)

Thank you for stopping to read and leave a comment on my "surprised" entry, too. It seems we were on the same wavelength :) I appreciate it and you, too, Friend!
