“Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the vail; whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.” (Hebrews 6:17-20)
“The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.” (Psalm 111:7)
As I read these verses, I am encouraged. Why? Because these verses remind me that I can be confident in the promises and word of God. What God says, he will do. He doesn’t lie. His commandments are sure. They won’t change.
Everything around me might be shaking and changing and unsettled. My feelings might be all over the map. Doubts and confusion might be knocking on the door and howling at the windows. But I’m not putting my confidence in those things. I’m not putting confidence in myself, or feelings, or what is or isn’t going on around me. My confidence is in God who is “the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
Abraham found God worthy of his confidence. It is said of Sara, his wife that “she judged him faithful who had promised.” All through the ages of time we have examples of God proving himself faithful to those who placed their confidence in him. I would encourage you to put your confidence in him also. He’s worthy of it.
