Be Strong and of Good Courage!!
Joshua 1:9 TLB Yes, be bold and strong! Banish fear and doubt! For remember, the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Are you bold, strong and of good courage? Do you harbor thoughts of fear and doubt? God assures us that we do not have to be terrified or discouraged. You do not have to be afraid or dismayed.
How much time do we spend in vain being afraid, worrying about the future? Most of the things that we worry about never happen. Think about it. Life is unpredictable and most of the things that we fear the most never even happen.
Terrifying thoughts do not come from God—so guess what? They come from the devil himself. He figures the more time we spend worrying and in fear the less time we will spend in God’s Word. He loves it when we loose our confidence in God and in ourselves.
I once read an acronym for fear. False Evidence Appearing Real. That has stuck with me. The things that we worry about seem very real to us. We worry about our children, our spouses, our loved ones, our finances. We fear loss and loneliness, pain and rejection.
So what is the opposite of worry? Trust. Trust in the Word of God that what He tells us in His word is true. He commanded us to be strong and courageous.
Life is a journey and we will encounter things that hurt us. No one is exempt from pain and suffering. We can be confident that He will be with us and help us. He always gives us exactly what we need when we need it. If it is strength we need, He gives us strength. If it is confidence we need, He gives us confidence. When we need courage, He gives us courage.
Courage means to be fearless, without fear. 365 times in the Bible God made reference to the phrase, ‘Do Not Fear’. He knew that we would need it every day. And everyday as we awake to start a new day we put on our armour and decide to be brave and bold. We make the decision to live our day without fear or with fear. It is a choice that we make.
Worry is a waste of time. So when worry creeps into our minds and our hearts we must replace it. Consciously replace the thoughts of fear and worry with the thoughts of God. By reading and studying His Word we arm our hearts and minds with God’s Words. Having God’s Words in our heads and our hearts will outweigh the bad thoughts of fear and worry.
He commanded Joshua to be not dismayed. Dismayed is defined as terrified surprise, to strike with fear, terrify, discourage, to crush the spirit with sudden fear. So be ready for it. The devil uses it as one of his tools to keep us focused on fear and not upon God. Be ready and do not be surprised when these feelings and thoughts rush into your mind. Immediately pray, “Lord give me strength, remove this fear and doubt”, then just as fast as the bad thoughts came the good thoughts will replace the fear and doubt.
Remember that fear does not come from God. It is False Evidence Appearing Real. But God is real. His presence and His love are real. Heaven is real. Angels are real. Think on those things that are pure and lovely and the fear will leave you just as fast as it surprised you.
Be of good courage. Be confident. Be fearless.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You and I praise You for hearing my prayer. Because of You and Your love for us we do not have to fear. Thank You Lord for being with us wherever we go and help us to be bold and courageous with no doubts. When we do have feelings of fear, bring to our remembrance Your Words and Your love, Your awesome mighty love. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
