Snowball’s Dilemma
Once upon a time there were four little boy kittens born under Grandma Doc’s pepper plants. There were three that were solid black and one was a little bit black with lots of white. I was the different one. My name is Snowball and this is my story.
Grandma Doc is our country doctor. She has her own garden outside her medical office. Early one morning she came out to water her garden. She was real surprised to find she had a Momma cat with four baby kittens safely snuggled up under her pepper bushes. She didn’t water her pepper plants anymore that summer because she didn’t want us to get afraid and run away. Momma told us she was our friend.
One day Grandma Doc’s neighbor. C.J. came over to visit her. She brought him out to the garden and showed him where we lived. That was scary. My brothers were afraid he would be mean to us but it was different with me. I knew C. J. was a human that I could love and trust. Before I knew it he was bringing me special kitty treats. He shared some with my brothers. I was real shy so I kept running away from him when he tried to pick me up.
Early one morning Grandma Doc came out to the garden. I didn’t know it but she had decided to help C.J. catch me so I could go to his house and live with him. I wasn’t very co-operative because I didn’t know what that meant. Grandma Doc must have helped catch kittens before. All of a sudden she was cuddling me in her arms. That was pretty nice. Then she started walking over to C.J.’s house. I had never been over there because we weren’t allowed to leave Grandma Doc’s yard unless our Momma took us out to teach us how to catch a mouse.
I started wiggling,:”Hey stop, you guys are going to get me in trouble!” I kept trying to tell them but they just kept going to C.J.’s house.
We were all very excited. I had never been inside anyone’s house before. Grandma Doc showed me to C.J.’s Mom and Grandma King. When Grandma Doc bent down to show me to Daisy Mae I got really scared because she is a dog. Dog’s are supposed to hate cats. But guess what? She just gave me a big licky kiss. The dogs outside tried to eat me. Wow, maybe house dogs were nice dogs. It looked like we were going to friends
It was really fun living in a house. I played hide-n-seek with C.J. I could hid for hours in the neatest places, even Daisy Mae couldn’t find me.
Since C.J. was going to school at home we got to spend a lot of time together. We soon became best friends. Last week he told me he was going to camp. What is camp? He said I could write him a letter. What is a letter?
I climbed up on the back of the couch and watched C.J. leave in the car to go to camp two days ago. I don’t like this camp thing. It makes me feel lonely and sad. I want C.J. to come home. Maybe if I write him a letter he will hurry home.
Dear C..J:
Are you having fun at camp? I really miss you. Guess what Janie did today? She cleaned out my litter box! Imagine a girl bothering a boys litter box. I was so embarrassed!
You know how I love to play in Grandma King’s whirlpool tub? I jumped in after she went to bed and splash. Water! I was soaking wet. Why would anyone put water in my tub? I could have drowned!
I better paw off so I can send you my letter. I miss you but I want you to have fun.
Please hurry home.
Love,
Snowball
One more day gone. I know I’m just a kitten but now is my favorite time of day. It makes me realize how special my human family is to me. I have a family that knows how to pray. I feel extra special when I hear them pray for C.J., Daisy Mae and me every night. I wonder if prayer is like writing a letter?
Dear God:
Thank you for a wonderful day and my human family. Please bring C.J. home safe.
Love,
Snowball
