TITLE: God leads when we follow!
By Betty Overstreet

What shall I do today? I could just stay in bed and read a good book, or sleep, or perhaps I could jump right up, walk out into the world and see what God has waiting for me. It is so hard to move to a new town at this stage of life but it is also an adventure, to see what the Lord has in store for me.

“Wow! God, here I am, what do you have in store for me today? I’m just going to wonder down the street and ……Who is that woman over there? I don’t recognize her and I thought I had seen everyone in this tiny village. She seems lost or terribly sad. Ok, God, I get it, here I go. Life is sure a continuous adventure since I asked you to come into my life!”

“Hi there! Isn’t this a beautiful day? I live right down the street but I don’t think we have….what is wrong? Is there something I can do to help?”

“I’m sorry, I don’t usually walk around crying but I can’t seem to find my way home. I am sure my house is right here on this street somewhere but I am really scared”, she cried as she began wiping her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater.

I put my arms around the little old lady and said, “Don’t cry, I am here with you now and we will find your house. What is your name?”

“My name is Lucy and I think my house is on this street. I live with my daughter and I don’t remember the address but she has a beautiful red rose bush right in the front next to the sidewalk. Those roses are the prettiest ones I have ever seen.” she said as she continued sniffing into the handkerchief she had found in her pocket.

“Lucy, don’t you worry about a thing, God is with us this morning and He will show us the way. What color is your house, do you remember?”

“ Oh my, I think it is white, all houses are white aren’t they, dear?” Lucy said.

“Miss Lucy, do you know that woman who is running toward us? I think she is yelling. “Mama where are you?”. Does that look like your daughter?”

“Suzie, Suzie, oh yes that is my Suzie!”, Lucy excitedly proclaimed, all tears suddenly gone and forgotten.

As the woman reached us she threw her arms around Lucy, weeping with joy.

“Mama, Mama, Thank God I found you. I was so worried, don’t you ever wander off without me again. You don’t know our town yet so you must stay in the house until I can take you for your walk.”

The lady turned to me with tears still glistening at the corners of her green eyes and reached out a hand to me.

“Thanks so much for helping my mom. You are surely an angel sent by God. Mama just came to live with me and doesn’t know her way around yet.

Would you like to come home with us and have a cup of coffee? I just made a fresh pot and some scones to go with it. I am new in town and Mama and I could really use a friend. It is so hard to meet people in a new place. By the way, my name is Susan, what is yours?”

I replied, “My name is Angela Faith, and I could surely use a friend –lead me to the coffee and scones.”
As we walked toward my new friend’s home I raised my eyes to gaze at the heavens and whispered, “Thank you Lord for allowing me to help Miss Lucy for you and for bringing these two precious ladies into my life when you knew I really needed a special friend. Looks like you gave me two instead of just one!”

What a sweet story. Wonderfully written except for "wonder" should be "wander" down the street. Minor, however, very minor. I loved getting a new friend (2). Thanks for sharing and keep writing.

That is a sweet story. How many times we choose to do what we want to do instead of following what God wants is to do. We miss so many new friends like that. Thanks for writing. This is good.

This is very sweet!

It'd be a tad less confusing if your thoughts and prayers were in italics, rather than quotation marks. Not a major issue, though.

You all had an adventure that morning!

I just love it when God leads us to a blessing. Good report.
