I am writing about Christmas, a time of the year
When people are filled with love and good cheer
However, it is late April and itís plain to see
That all those good feelings have decided to flee

When the air was cold, and the nights were long
We gladly gave praise in prayer and in song
We heard the great story of when He was born
And saw all the goodness that appeared on that morn

A great gift was given to us that night
A gift of love, compassion and light
All the animals gladly gave up their straw
And watched over Him with wonder and awe

Itís a day of happiness, and a time of joy
For every man, woman, girl and boy
Itís also a day to relax and play
Just make sure you remember what happened that day

Now that all the holiday decor is put away
Rudeness and Ignorance return to the fray
Driving away all that goodness and light
And making us forget whatís wrong and whatís right

Some donít remember what they sang, learned or read
And theyíre only concerned about getting ahead
Spending the extra cash they have to invest
While helping the needy is given a rest

The Christmas Season gives us friendship and love
Now that itís over, we just get a push and a shove
Peace on Earth are forgotten words too
Patience is thin, and good manners are few

I know life is hectic, fast and hard too
And we all need to make a dollar or two
But think back to when you had all that holiday spirit
Itís easy, just relax and youíll surely hear it

For a special gift was given to all that day
And we should never try to put it away
Christmas Spirit doesnít have to end in December
It should live on in June, July, August and September

How true. How true.
It certainly is not in the light vein of Dr. Suess.

Dr Seuss would be proud! A wonderful poetic read with words we need to think about every day

I am a big fan of Dr. Seuss' but there have been times that I really didn't understand all the words and the message. The message behind your poem was clear and powerful, giving credit to whom it was due. It flowed softly and sweetly and held me captive. Nicely done.

loved it. How about giving us a Seuss/Christian version of Mothers next week? Maybe "The Mom in the Red Hat Is Back." it was a fun read.

Great! We want more! (Other weeks ... the length was perfect too.)

Hi Robert. I just wanted to take a moment to encourage you by letting you know that your entry made it into the semi-finals for the Christmas Challenge and I can honestly say that all the semi-finalist ratings were very, very close. Although you didn't actually receive an award, you still did very well. With love, Deb (Challenge Coordinator)
