I stood before two doors. One was widened,
Adorned in gold standing tall, proud. The other, narrow
Made of rotted wood, hung crooked, humble.
My curiosity laid a hand on the haggard entry.
It gave way to reveal a path in darkness and in
The distance a tiny orb of light.

I traveled for so long, but the light remained distant.
I made two more steps of doubt and stood in exhaustion.
With a tired body and weary heart I closed my eyes.
Wishing I had chosen the golden door.
One last time, I raised my head to give a final
Glance down the never-ending tunnel.

I was frozen with the beauty that emerged before me.
My fatigued feet stood atop a road of pearled brick.
On all sides and as far as my eye could see, radiant fields of
Green crystals, lined by jade stemmed flowers that
Buttress petals of ruby, amethyst and amber.

Lofty trees with opal trunks, foliage of emerald gemstones
Swayed in the fruitful breeze.
Sapphire birds perched upon the brilliant branches.
The sun and moon smiled side by side,
Suspended in an onyx, topaz swirled sky, festooned with
Lustrous diamonds.
Stardust illuminated my way to the towering
Gates of my future.

The gaunt and worn entry of my choosing has left me
Bejeweled.

Oh the dilemma of choosing the right path. This tells the story well.

I liked this poem. Your descriptions of the more difficult traveled road and its reward at the end was well written.

Oh, how happy to behold the jewels of the new Jerusalem; while the golden gate may glitter for a lifetime, those jewels will shine forever. Thank you for the trip down heavenly streets.

I really liked this, you can see and feel the hardship of life revealed in the first two verses followed by the reward of the last two. Well done.
