One dear sweet Emily, young and small,
Wanted herself a soccer ball.
For Christmas asked her parents please
“We’ll see on Christmas,” they did tease.
Then Christmas morning bright with glee
Dear Emily danced by a Christmas tree.
For there beneath a package lay
About the size, a ball to play.
And when poor Emily waited long
With all the boxes open and gone
The one was laid upon her knee.
She opened it quickly there to see,
A shinny new soccer ball just her size.
Then what she did was nothing wise.
Yet, so excited was this girl
She pulled it out in such a whirl
And placed it on the floor happily
Then kicked it into the Christmas tree!
It hit the tree with such a bash
The tree fell over with a crash.
When all the glass was cleaned and swept
And the Christmas tree was upright kept,
Then Emily was sent out to play
With her present on a Christmas day.
Yes, there she kicked to her hearts content
And thanked dear Jesus for her present.
For I’m sure He laughed, as did us all,
Over the tale of Emily and her Christmas soccer ball.
