How it came to be
Remains the storyboard
Of Heaven’s tale.

While One,
Groomed to reign
From the beginning of beginnings,
Sat upon a throne,

Another,
Clay made
And destined for ignominy,
Sat within the stench of filthy mire.

But the bond
Forged where angels could not see,
With Eternity’s glue
Held fast.

And a storyboard
In Heaven drawn
Turned an unexpected page.

A page
Where leapt a Sovereign
From the throne
To miry clay

All for friendship
To declare.
Friendship for a vessel
Chipped, broken, shattered.

But the clay
Within that muck
Would the Sovereign bury.
No interest in friendship did it bear.

Yet Heaven’s storyboard
With friendship’s scarlet ink,
Continued the strangest tale to tell.

A tale of Sovereignty,
Willingly adorned in mire’s clay,
And friendship -
To which He now laid claim.

Of how within that sticky mire
The Sovereign tread with ease
Upon raging waves,
Holding fast the hands of clay

That from sudden desperation
To Him did clasp
In a friendship’s need
Only He did understand.

Then Heaven’s ink
Upon the storyboard begun
Spilled now its scarlet upon the clay.

And friendship
Birthed of blood
And untold agony
Wove a sacred bond

Within the ready clay,
Sealed with grace
Bearing mercy’s imprint.
Friendship, first revealed

Upon Heaven’s storyboard
A vessel,
Chipped, broken, shattered
Had at last redeemed.

I don't know where to begin. This took my breath away. Filled with beauty and horror, combined with great love. How gifted you are! Give us more poems with such splendor!

Bravo! This was a most powerful piece. It tore at my heart strings and I visualized the sacrificial Lamb of God. From beginning to end, nothing but genius.

My favorite: "Within the ready clay, sealed with grace, bearing mercy's imprint. Friendship, first revealed" Wonderful, wonderful! This gets my vote!

Fantastic! Our Sovereign friend holding fast our hands of clay. You've reminded us how much we have to be thankful for. What an awesome sacrifice He made so that we could know Him as Friend.

All hail the power of Jesus name! Your storyboard of words, expressing the enormous sacrifice the Lord did make, leaves this piece of redeemed clay, speechless.
