lightening flashing, cracking through the sky
ominous clouds cloaked, preparing to gather
deception snaking—slowly it slinks, slithers
through insipid onslaughts of religious scorn

ominous clouds cloaked, preparing to gather
as hatred foams from mordant mouths of men
through insipid onslaughts of religious scorn
while water seeks to wash away defilement

as hatred foams from mordant mouths of men
now betraying innocence, exalting vile sin
while water seeks to wash away defilement
among proclamations shouting, “Crucify Him.”

now betraying innocence, exalting vile sin
stripping, tearing away any likeness of a man
among proclamations shouting, “Crucify Him.”
blood pours, shards of bone and metal dig deep

stripping, tearing away any likeness of a man
His heart beating life among thorns, yet silent
blood pours, shards of bone and metal dig deep
ripped tissue, provision made, for coming—Glory

His heart beating life among thorns, yet silent
wood—rough, splintered, sinks into marred flesh
ripped tissue, provision made, for coming—Glory
the snake slithers, proclaiming victory, hissing defeat

wood—rough, splintered, sinks into marred flesh
brutal weight falls, echoing redemption eternal
the snake slithers, proclaiming victory, hissing defeat
as nails pierce tender flesh of hands once healing

brutal weight falls, echoing redemption eternal
hammering a mockery, a sign—King of the Jews
as nails pierce tender flesh of hands once healing
blood cascades into rivers of the Father’s tears

hammering a mockery, a sign—King of the Jews
raised among thieves, a spotless sacrificial lamb
blood cascades into rivers of the Father’s tears
silence gives way to groans of forsaken longing

raised among thieves, a spotless sacrificial lamb
cries, “Father forgive them, they know not.”
silence gives way to groans of forsaken longing
it is finished, inhaling breath of this life—no more

cries, “Father forgive them, they know not.”
gathered clouds descend, darkness invades
it is finished, inhaling breath of this life—no more
the earth quakes, giving up those once dead

gathered clouds descend, darkness invades
veil between God and man is ripped asunder
the earth quakes, giving up those once dead
the snake hisses, retreating—Hell is plundered

veil between God and man is ripped asunder
He descends to depths among Sheol’s torment
the snake hisses, retreating—Hell is plundered
The Cross—saturated wood, demands surrender

He descends to depths among Sheol’s torment
the snake shrivels under—Glory—now evident
The Cross—saturated wood, demands surrender
defeating death, Hell and the grave, eternal

the snake shrivels under—Glory—now evident
permeated, destroyed, gates of Hell are shattered
defeating death, Hell and the grave, eternal
not one drop of His blood pouring—is wasted

permeated, destroyed, gates of Hell are shattered
a stone is rolled away—Glory—now resurrected
not one drop of His blood pouring—is wasted
head of the snake, crushed, subdued by—The Cross

a stone is rolled away—Glory—now resurrected
lightening flashes, severing death’s hold—forever
head of the snake, crushed, subdued by—The Cross
Christ blood, forever cascading, pouring eternal rivers

lightening flashes, severing death’s hold—forever
born of submission to humiliation upon saturated wood
Christ blood, forever cascading, pouring eternal rivers
of salvation—His Cross—wood and blood commingled

This is very beautiful. You have a wonderful way with words and I love the way this poem is structured. Oh, how I envy people who can write poetry!

Such vivid imagery. The repeated lines have a lot of impact and really echoed in my head! Powerful piece.

You obviously poured your heart into this! The repetition of a line from each previous verse is very effective. Great job!

This is incredible in every aspect! The form is exquisite! The langue so descriptive! The flow is perfect! Inspired and anointed, without a doubt! I agree ... what's this doing in "Intermediate"?

Your writing is deep and touches the heart of the reader with excellence, rightly representing the Most Excellent King we serve!

I love looking forward to reading your work ... always! :)

Love you much,
Jan
