TITLE: I Want To Be This Woman
By Kathy Ellis

I want to be the Proverbs 31 Woman. Not just to be like her. I want to be her.

Have you heard about her? This woman is amazing! She has a noble character. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. Wow! In a manís world, her husband has full confidence in her! He trusts her. All her life she does good things for him, never evil.

She gets up early before dawn and provides food for her family and servants. She plans ahead! She thinks about things before acting. Proverbs 31 Woman buys a field and plants a vineyard! A vineyard could keep her set for life. She can sell the grapes or make wine to sell to the public. This lady has an aptitude for business dealings.

She works hard and she is strong. Running a family business and keeping the home in order is not an easy task. She watches over her affairs and makes sure that her business is profitable. Her lights donít go out at night either. She makes use of every minute.

Not only is she a shrewd businesswoman, but she is charitable. She gives to the needy and welcomes the poor.

She doesnít worry about hard times. Her family is covered in scarlet, a reference to the blood of Christ. She has been faithful to take care of what He has given to her and also to increase it. She knows that her work and His faithfulness will result in provision during hard times.

She wears the best clothes and has the most beautiful furnishings in her home. Everyone knows what kind of woman she is, and they respect her. She is dignified and has more wisdom than most.

Because of her character and intelligence, her husbandís house is in order and he is counted among the prominent leaders in the community. Iím not sure what he does for a living because it seems that she does it all. But he is a leader. I knew there was truth in that old saying, ďbehind every great man is a great woman.Ē

She is faithful and willing to teach others. She doesnít have a lazy bone in her body.

Her children adore her and her husband praises her. He knows he has a prize.

ďCharm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.Ē (Proverbs 31: 30-31 NIV)

It seems that fearing the Lord is the smart thing to do. It certainly worked out for this woman. She knows what to do and how to do it to achieve her goals.

Like I said, I want to be Proverbs 31 Woman. But if I canít be her, surely I can learn from her example and be like her.

A favorite teacher of mine said that the Bible never said that the Prov. 31 woman did all of these things at the same time, and that it was more likely that she did each thing in its season, which is a lot less overwhelming.

I, too, chose to write about the woman of Proverbs, ("The Shrewd Woman of Proverbs"). I find myself under a lot of pressure comparing my life to hers. But she is someone we should all strive to be like. Nice job.

The part I always liked was she had servants! We could all do more with a few extra hands. :0) Nice entry.

I think we all have moments when we actually get there - maybe those moments don't last long, but we do get there!

I like the way you throw yourself in first, before starting the story. You cleverly wrote her virtures and let us admire her once again. You took a style that isn't easy to write, half first person, half story telling and did it very well. Great read
