Up on the mountain top
We all desire to be.
Where we can be “away from it all”,
Enjoying the peace that comes from Thee.

But it’s down in the valleys
Where the battles are found,
That the disciple of Christ
Must pick up his cross and holds his ground.

For in the midst of His battles,
The soldier will find,
It’s not just in calm quarters
We can have His peace of mind.

Courage does not mean that there is no fear,
But it’s the ability to think as danger draws near.
We are what we think, the Scriptures do say
And a soul easily rattled is certain to give way.

The greatest victory was not won
By a mighty knight on a charging horse,
But by a scorned and rejected Man,
Who humbly hung on a blood stained cross.

There will come a day when life’s battles are done
When we are called Home to be with the Son,
But for now in the valleys we are predestined to be
Enduring life’s conflicts to glorify Thee.
