Threshold

She stood there,
frozen
by the revelation
that would change
her whole life
…forever.

Gone were the
days
of carefree existence
and the
freedom
that she’d so thoroughly
enjoyed.

Too young
to bear such a
burden;
too naïve to
understand
the depth of her
predicament.

How foolish
she had been
to have
forfeited
her treasure
without realizing the
imminent consequences.

Face in her hands,
she weeps;
shedding bitter tears
of lost hopes
and shattered
dreams.

What now?
He’d gone
and left her
alone
for good.
Coward.
This is too much
for one person
to endure.

Life was never meant
to be
this way.

Drying her tears,
She lifts up her gaze
And walks
to the doorway.
Determined
not to let this
destroy her,
she crosses the
threshold
into a life of
uncertainty.

Hand resting on
her tummy,
she ponders -
just one more
chance?
This is a new path,
but she won’t allow
this detour
to defeat her.

She’d heard of
a God
that forgives;
a God who
shares burdens,
walks through
valleys of
suffering
with those he loves,
and offers rest
for the weary.

Step after timid
step,
she begins a
prayer
that changes the
course of
her life.

I like this! The second to last stanza is definitely my favorite.
