“I’ll be right with you,” called a familiar voice.
As I entered farther into the warehouse, I could not help but be amazed. The space was so huge, I couldn’t tell where it ended. My eye traveled down the endless rows of shelves, all holding neatly stacked and labeled white boxes. From the distance I heard the squeak of orthopedic shoes on the waxed tile floor.
“Fran, it’s me, Janice!” I called down the corridor.
“Janice?” Fran replied with surprise and excitement in her voice. The squeaking quickened, and I saw my friend emerge from one of the closer rows.
We met with a friendly hug. “What brings you to my neck of the woods, hon?” she asked as we parted.
“I’ve been meaning to come see were you worked for some time now. You keep telling me how wonderful it is. And now I can see why.”
“You haven’t seen the half of it.” She ushered me forward. “Everything you need for an abundant life is stocked right here.”
As we walked down the aisles, I read the labels on the boxes. “Wow. You carry some great stuff here. Love, grace, forgiveness, mercy. How can anyone possible afford this stuff?”
“They can’t,” Fran said matter-of-factly. “The entire inventory has already been bought and paid for by the manufacturer, my boss.”
Fran must have noticed the confusion written on my face and went on to explain, “He just absolutely loves people, and wanted to share his goods with them. He knew nobody would ever be able to afford such things on their own, so he paid for it himself and gives it away.”
I stopped dead in my tracks. “He just gives this stuff away?” My mind couldn’t grasp that kind of generosity. I tenderly picked up a box of peace, something I had always longed for but never know how to obtain. I placed the box back on the shelf with reluctance.
“You must have a hard time keeping everything in stock, with a deal like that.”
“Not at all. There’s plenty to go around and come back again a few times.”
I shook my head in amazement. How could I have not know about this?
Fran’s face lit up as if something had just occurred to her. “Wait right here, hon. I’ve got something I want to show you.” She went off in search of whatever it was she was looking for.
Moments later she returned with a box in her hands. This one was labeled “Eternal Life.” I stared at it in complete disbelief. I had never seen anything like this before. I had to know more. “Is this offer open for anyone?” I asked.
“Anyone and everyone. My boss doesn’t play favorites.”
“How do I go about signing up for this?” At this point, I was willing to do anything to get a share in this thing, regardless of any catches.
“You just have to ask him for it.”
“That’s it? Could you introduce me?”
“Of course. What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t? Follow me.” Fran guided me back to the front of the warehouse. “After meeting my boss, hon, your life will never be the same again.”
