An antique style diary was hidden among the ruins. What-Might-Have-Been called Specter over and victoriously held up the book. In a harsh voice, What-Might-Have-Been began to read the final entries aloud.

Dear Diary,
It has begun. The very thing that my father was afraid of is happening. It is the Holocaust, except it is of the Christians. It started innocently enough. Christians were seen as a lesser group of people—they were to be humored but never token seriously.
Slowly, with new legislation, our rights were whittled away—no religious holidays, not allowed to gather freely with each other, and other things like that. Christian students were segregated to ‘our own schools’ starting from the middle school all the way up to the college level. The little ones are allowed to go to regular school—the government thinks that they can change their minds. I pray not.
Now, this is possibly my last entry to you, dear Diary. You see, I know what is going to happen—if they follow the pattern that the Nazi’s had set during the First Holocaust. So far they are. And that is what worries me the most. Diary, I wish I could bring you so that I could smuggle in a few pages of my Bible...but you aren’t allowed to come with me for that very reason.
I’m ready for the second part of my test to start. I know that I will not fail. I know that I will remain strong from the start and I pray that some of the guards will see my faith.

Diary,
I must be short today. They have given us a short amount of time. I know the soldiers. I went to school with them... And they said that if I was to give up my Jesus I could stay here. Without my family. I didn’t know that the test started now.
I won’t. I must go, Diary.

Specter looked at What-Might-Have-Been and nodded. In a wheezing voice, it spoke, “This is what we need. It has been started...but now, can it be stopped?”
“We can only hope.” What-Might-Have-Been answered. “It’s too late for Sharon...but for others there’s still hope.”
This is what the LORD says: “Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded,” declares the LORD. “They will return from the land of the enemy. So there is hope for your future,” declares the LORD. “Your children will return to their own land. Jeremiah 31:16-17 (NIV)
