It was a horrible time for me and my family. It was a time in my life that I do not want to ever go through again. After intense physical therapy I came home on November seventeenth the day before my birthday. I continued my road to recovery. By March with God’s continued help and healing I was on the road to recovery. I missed my boy so much that I needed to find me a companion that would be with me. My husband worked nights then.
I started looking on the web sites at the shelters around our area. I found one about thirty miles away. She was so cute, a Border collie and Aussie mixed. Not only did they have her picture, they had a short video of her with a scarf tied around her neck. She was about one and a half years old. The video, I found out later was a last chance at a home.
I called and they still had her, so we went to see her. She bonded with my husband instantly. Gary, my husband was hers! She seemed to like me, I had a cane with me that I still had to use, and it didn’t seem to bother her. I think that God paired the three of us up.
We filled out the needed papers and took her home, they said that she was hyper, most people brought her back. Her background was that she was brought as a companion to another dog in the family but she was too rowdy and was kept in a cage most of her life. They teased and scared her. This made her tense and the teasing made her bark!
Once we got her home she seemed better, would go out on her leash when needed. We had a fenced in yard and doggie door, soon she went in and out on her own. I had picked out her name before I found her, so she was soon known as Sambrea, (Sambi for short).
At first she did not like to go in the car, I think she thought she had to go back to the shelter.
I kept taking her places but when we pulled up to a window, she went crazy if anybody talk to me or got near the car. Bones given to her to keep her busy helped and soon she did better, but never great!
As she got her know our daughter and family she loved them too. She barks when someone is leaving like she is going to eat them up.
It has been two years now, I needed to get her to calm down so I prayed to the Lord to calm this doggy down He already knew the problems that we had, but nothing is too small for our God or too big. It seemed it happened overnight, the next time I went to town I pulled up to the window and Sambi didn’t seem to mind. No vicious barking, she set in the front seat with her ears down and she was calm. Now it’s more times than not she is good. We tell her ‘No barking.’ And she stays calm.
I like to say she is cured of all her problems that her first family gave her but she’s not. But she truly is a sweet dog and she loves to make you laugh. One of her tricks is running on the bed burying her head on the pillow and turning her head upside down, which makes her one eye look at you. She will turn upside down and look at you till you tell her how pretty she is and when you tell her to speak her low growl is so funny!
I do think that God knew what He was doing when He put the three of us together, my husband wanted a Bernese mountain dog, but instead he has the most loyal loving and playful dog he could ever have asked for. Sambi needed a loving home and we needed her.

I'm so glad things worked out, and praise God for your recovery from that virus. It is so debilitating.
I thought your story was powerful and well written. Thank you.
God bless~
Good job!!
There was enough details to show the trait of the new dog. A few more words could have described his eyes, his coat and other features.
In this sentence: "I needed to find me a companion that would be with me." -- I would leave the first "me" out and just say: "find a companion..."
Good overall work.
While you have a knack at storytelling, you may want to brush up on your punctuation rules. You had some run on sentences, and lines like this could use some commas: After intense physical therapy, I came home on November seventeenth, the day before my birthday. A good proofreader might help with this. Also check out Jan's Writing Basics on the message board. She has a thread which helps all levels of writers. She responds to everyone who leaves a post.
You did a nice job with this story. My heart is glad that God provided a way to comfort you during such a difficult time. Your words will touch more hearts than you would imagine.
