On a Sunday evening, the family of Reverend Innocence prepared an African delicacy, a white soft iyan (pounded yam) with clusters of lobsters jostling for attention in the vegetable soup to accompany it.
Sufficient water was taken to help diggestion.
Before going to bed, the man of God discovered that the meal didn't cooperate with his system: the water settled on one side and the food on the other side of the stomach.
Throughout the night, he rolled from one end of the bed to another in pain.
"My dear, I did not have a minute sleep overnight." he lamented the following morning.
"What was wrong?" Christie, his wife probed.
"Indigestion."
"No problem! I'll buy you chocolate bars and sandwiches to eat."
She did as promised.
Taking them added insult to the injury.
By mid-day, he couldnt sit, stand or lay on either sides. He perspired profusely and breathed irregularly. His belly became swollen.
"Give me the car keys. Let's take him to the hospital," his wife signalled to her son.
"It's not save for you to drive now, madam." one of the associate Pastors present asserted as he took them from the young man.
The twenty-minutes drive took them into the waiting hands of staff of the emmergency department of that hospital.
"What happened, madam?" the Doctor inquired.
"He conplained of indigestion that culminated in a swollen belly. He couldn't deficate or urinate." Christie explained.
He scribbled some things on a file brought by a Nurse after he examined him. He returned it to her.
Innocence was carried on a stretcher to a men's ward. A drip was administered on him to offer some relief.
Various tests were carried out without any clue to what went wrong. All results showed that all was well with Innocence but the pain still persisted!
When every medical attempt offered no respite, another associate Pastor suggested, "Let's invite some Prayer Band members to interceed for him."
"You're right!" Christie agreed, scrolling her phone to search and call their numbers.
After sometime, four of them arrived and a small room was made available to them.
As soon as they started praying, a voice thundered, "Don't waste your time on this matter! I'll not hear you! My servant has transgressed in a matter that concerns the grey haired woman using a walkingstick in his church!"
Two of them went to report to him.
"Sir, the Lord said that we shouldn't interceceed for you because of your transgression." one of them explained.
"I haven't done any wrong to anyone." he denied.
"Sir, what did you do to the grey haired woman using a walkingstick in our church?" the other man inquired.
He was silent for a while but suddenly exclaimed, "Yeees! I know my transgression!" he garnered sufficient strength to speak, as granted by the Lord.
"I prevented her from giving thanks in the last Sunday service. Hers had become too repetitive and boring. It was always 'I thank God that My household do not know the cost of a drip in the hospital. We deficate and urinate with ease'. Now I know the importance of her thanksgiving. Lord have mercy on me."
All those around him shook their heads as those two men went to join others to plead for forgiveness.
As they began, a thunderous voice came again, " Tell My Servant to begin to thank Me for allowing him to deficate and urinate easily. This will give him access to a drip from Calvary that will heal him.
On hearing this, he began to say "Thank you Jesus for my deficating and urinating with ease."
Within an hour, a rumbling took place in his stomach and demanded, "Please, carry me to the toilet."
Returning to his bed, he said, "Now I appreciate better the bible verse that reads "In everything, give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
