God has created a fantastic selection of flowers for us to enjoy. The smallest flower in the world is common, Wolfia or watermeal. It floats on top of the water, clumping together like floating green grits. Its flower fits in a small depression on the plant and is too small for the naked eye to see. The flowers are quite wonderful, and alien-looking under magnification.
The largest flower in the world is the very rare Rafflesia arnoldii, or carrion flower, so named from the rotting meat stench it makes, attractive only to the flies which pollinate it. I do not like flies, but God made the largest flower only a fly could love. At three feet across and 25 pounds, the flower part only lasts for a few days and dies.
One of the most unique flowers is Rhizanthella gardneri, the western underground orchid of Australia. Like its name states it grows and blooms entirely under the soil. It has an inch long bloom which holds 150 tiny burgundy flowers. Before its discovery in 1928 only God and a few underground insects which pollinate it enjoyed it or knew it existed.
God has created such a vast diversity of forms of life, that fit so well together in an intricate web, that it should astound us, and fill us with gratitude. No single one of the seven billion of us is the same, and we all have our unique niche. God loves every creature, from the biggest to the smallest, smelliest, and even those who bloom only underground where only He can see.
