God’s Word has been reviewed or ignored and the verdict passed by different classes of people down through the ages. God, in His wisdom, has already given a reply to each of them.
An agnostic doesn’t know whether there is a God or a future life. God states plainly in His Word, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16”
To the atheist, who believes there is no God, He replies, “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. Psalms 14:1a” There are scores of non-complimentary verses which reflect God’s ideas about foolish people.
The wicked simply don’t think about God. They get caught up in the rat race of life and don’t take time to think of their future, with or without God. God explains, “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. Psalms 10:4”
The unsaved know God is real. They make a conscious choice to not place their trust in Him because of what it might cost them. God declares that it will cost them dearly in Revelation 20:15. “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Carnal believers have received Christ as their Saviour, but do not want to give Him full control. They go through life doing their own thing, making their own choices, and ignoring His commands. Much of life is considered ‘gray’ areas, which cause them to believe they have the freedom to do things that do not please our Father.
The only way something can be made gray is to add darkness to white. The white is then tainted. Jesus tells us, “I am the light of the world” in John 8:12, and “that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all,” according to I John 1:5b.
Another command, from II Timothy 2:15, is to be “rightly dividing the word of truth”. God doesn’t deliberately hide anything from anyone. The Bible portrays light and darkness vividly. Truth becomes less cloudy as people investigate and learn God’s precepts.
God’s choice is that all obey truths found in the Bible. He will not force any to do so, though someday everyone will wish they had.
Godly, dedicated believers have chosen to obey God whole-heartedly. God has taught them through trials that He is in control and that He will be their refuge in times of trouble. God guarantees them:
“My ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you
I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
These individuals take God literally when He speaks to them through Scripture. They study it, memorize it and practice it in their daily lives. They love God and long to please Him. They understand their imperfections and realize they fail God every day. He reminds them, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9.”
Therefore as we continue to grow we realize there are no mistakes in His Word, and no issues that have not been addressed. As frail humanity, we must grasp the truth that God says what He means and means what He says. Adjustments we may want to make to suit our lifestyles are inexcusable, for Psalms 119:89 reminds us, “Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.”
God is the only author who has a right to say, “Do not change my Word. Do not ignore my Word. Do not disobey my Word. Do not disbelieve my Word, for if you do there will be severe, unfavorable consequences.”
God, the greatest Author, wrote the Bible, the greatest Book. He does not give anyone permission to correct, ignore, modify or omit one jot or one tittle for any reason. We are required to believe it and obey Him by applying its truths to our lives, for God promises blessings to those who do.
God’s final verdict is, “No Changes Necessary!”
