In the land of million dollar houses, how could this be happening? In less than a couple of months, Mitzy used her anger to mobilize a group of volunteers to serve a noon meal out of her downtown church.

Vandals broke into the home of an elderly widow. Josh Neihous, her next door neighbor, paced his living room. “This is outrageous!” he yelled at the silent walls.
He picked up the phone. In the next five weeks, the neighborhood watch group had reported nine cases of suspicious behavior to the police, leading to three arrests.

Anger is normal, yet a powerful emotion. It is not evil in and of itself. As people of faith, we are challenged to channel it to affect positive change. Instead of snapping at an irritating coworker, try to take a step back and evaluate the actual problem. Come up with some possible solutions and be prepared to concede in some area in order to attain a mutual resolution to the conflict.
Ask any parent. Children, especially teenagers, can raise frustration levels to new heights. Their radar seems to hone in when mothers and fathers have the least resistance, especially when worn and exhausted. They hope to cut a quick deal before their parents delve into the situation too deep. Parents become irritated. Often, the result is a shouting match that leaves both sides upset. When parents feel their anger mounting, a phrase like, “Give me some time, and I’ll get back to you,” can diffuse the tension. It allows both sides to seek God’s help in coming up with a solution.
Frustration is a part of our every day world. We can choose to lash out in anger or find creative ways to solve problems. May God help us opt for the right road.
