Greg called back to his mum as he was almost late to catch the bus.
He had told her the previous night, of his plans to go to the quiet hills downtown to meditate and be alone with God. He liked it that way and decided he would go through it this time, fasting.
Fighting back the urge and the enticing aroma of his mother's stew, he raced out of the house just in time to catch the bus.
At 21, Greg was agile as expected of a youth and jumped on the bus as it was moving away.
All through the journey, he listened to a favourite gospel music while looking forward to a great day with God.
When the bus reached his destination, he got down and began the lonely trip uphill. It was still in the early hours of the day and there were few people around.
He settled for his desired spot beneath the shade of a tree and began enjoying the moments he had longed for.
Just about half an hour into his meditations and prayers, someone walked up to him.
It wasn't an angel,no, but a young lady he took for a tourist.
Unknown to him that she actually
came intentionally seduce to him, he broke his communion with God and began chatting away with her under the guise of desiring to share the gospel with her.
From the weather and the terrain to the beautiful places in the country, they discussed on and on for a couple of hours.
He seemed to have forgotten his reason for being there. Even when, she offered a bottle of fruit juice, all he could say was "thanks but I don't take mango juice."
He had forgotten that he was fasting.
"Will you like to meet my friends?" she asked. "we are here on excursion and sightseeing."
"Yes," he said enthusiastically.
Then they arose and he followed her, "like a sheep to the slaugther"
When he got to her friends, they were all females dressed in skimpy clothes.
He sat with them and even enjoyed their dirty jokes. It was only when they were about to serve their meal of chicken soup that he remembered his mum's that he abandoned in the morning.
He checked his watch and realised eight hours had passed since he stopped
praying. How terrible!
He jumped up alarmingly and excused himself. They persuaded him to stay but, thanks to the good Lord, he fled and spent the rest of his time begging God for forgiveness.
