In fear of being exposed by the truth, I cowardly chose dare. Usually the dare was some sort of ridiculing task. One in particular I remember was going outside, IN THE FRONT YARD, naked. I did it and was locked out! Our neighbor, an older gentleman, was outside working in his yard. After about two minutes, I was allowed back inside. Everyone, of course, was amused at my adventure. I was unimpressed at first, but later began to laugh uncontrollably with everyone else.
When my parents arrived home later that day, our neighbor informed them about my “showcase.” They were upset and disappointed, but most of all, they were embarrassed by my unwise choice. My telephone privileges were taken away and my friends could no longer come over when my parents were not home. Maybe I should have just stuck with the truth, I didn’t know that the dare would warrant consequences.
Truth or Dare is not a child’s game anymore; it is a crucial life decision. Choosing Truth now, means choosing Jesus, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” John 14:6. However, the fear of exposure still remains. Christians who are making efforts to live faithfully are tested, (1 Peter 1:3-7). Sometimes, the pressure of the tests uncovers us. Distasteful words may escape our mouth when we are angry. Angry words are sometimes the result of what has been buried in the heart, (Luke 6:45). A chaotic situation may occur and we may react chaotically. Or, we may not love the person who has hurt us unconditionally.
Therefore, to avoid the pruning, (John 15:2), we spinelessly take the dare. We are dared not be set free, (John 8:31-32). The consequence is not having a good conscience toward God and being saved by Jesus’ resurrection, (1 Peter 3:21).
Will you choose Truth and be born again of imperishable seed, (1 Peter 1:18-23) or do you dare to have your name NOT found in the book of life, (Revelation 20:15)?
