About how his life had passed him by with eternity coming soon.
The years had been so good to him but it wasn’t from the start.
For when he was young and foolish he had a rebellious heart.
He remembered back to early days with no worries or no cares.
While playing with the other boys they were full of dares.
They told him to just trust them and it would be OK.
That shooting guns was fun you see; it was just a form of play.
The gun went off, the shot rang out and silence filled the air.
His friend would look down at him and start to say a prayer.
The pain he felt would go away and time would now pass by.
But the memory would be in his heart until his time to die.
As manhood came and showed itself he stepped up to the plate.
A girl he met in Sunday school, he now would start to date.
He courted her and married her and the two would become one.
She would work to pay the rent and his writing had begun.
They shared their life together with the knowledge of the Lord.
Their marriage had such harmony as they lived in one accord.
They traveled on their journey, the three of them each day.
She held his hand in encouragement as both their heads turned grey.
As age set in and things grew dim they stayed at home a lot.
For together they had made some memories since they had tied the knot.
They reflected back to early years when the race of life they ran.
And of the time the gun went off and changed their whole flight plan.
You see that day his life had changed and he would walk no more.
He has lived it in a wheelchair and has never felt the floor.
When she had passed he thought his life was also dead and gone.
But through the grief and many tears he tried to tarry on.
He now writes books of memories of how the three of them survived.
Of how they teamed with Jesus Christ, the One who suffered and died.
He now looks toward the future to the reunion coming up.
To see his wife and Savior, and then he’ll stand up to sup.
