Two of our 3 children graduated from the Christian school where I have taught for the last 9 years. They both had beautiful graduations and parties and such exciting last days in this school.
Our oldest "child" will be 23 years old in July. What a jewel! He attended 2 years of Bible school after high school and is now a junior working on a degree in Communication. He holds down a full time job and is a leader in the Christian fraternity on campus. He is 100% sold out for the Lord.
Our daughter is 20 and is a freshman in the honors program at college. She was valedictorian of her graduating class, but then decided to spend a year at a Bible school in Costa Rica right after high school. She is now pre-med and wants to go on the mission field as soon as she gets her degree. Talk about being sold out for the Lord! She has journaled about her walk with the Lord since she was very little.
And then there's our baby. He will turn 18 tomorrow. Intelligent, witty, well liked, a golfer, basketball player and thinks he has the world by the tail. But this boy has just been kicked out of our Christian school ... just 4 weeks before graduation. Popping a pill and chasing it down with vodka at the school prom is not the smartest thing to do. But then he has never done things the easy way. He had won District golf and placed 7th in Regions. He was on his way to State in 1 week.
Why do 2 out of 3 children, from the same family, go one way and the third goes the other? I don't believe in black sheep. My love is never conditional. I want to always be ready to forgive. But my saga is not about me...it's about the love of a brother and a sister who yearn to have a relationship with their wayward brother.
Ever since Kyle's first infraction at school last year when he was caught chewing tobacco, Emily has been Kyle's greatest cheerleader. Kyle's bathroom mirror is plastered with Bible verses put there by Emily. Every time she comes home, Kyle finds one more Bible verse on his mirror. To everyone's surprise, Kyle is finding it more and more difficult to find his face in that mirror, but he has never taken one of those verses down.
Aaron's full time job is to design websites. Throughout his busy day, Aaron prays for his little brother and finds time to send off an email or write on Kyle's My Space to let Kyle know that he cares. This fall Kyle will join Aaron at college. Aaron so desires to have a strong relationship with Kyle and be the driving force that comes alongside his brother to reintroduce him to the Lord.
Kyle is currently suffering from the dread disease that many seniors go through...his personal disease is Kyleitis. He is having a difficult time showing Emily and Aaron that he appreciates their prayers and love. But that doesn't seem to be having any effect on his brother and sister. Their unconditional love for Kyle is nothing short of amazing and could only come from God. God has a plan for Kyle...That I am sure of. High school graduation is not an eternal matter. After all the graduations are over, the gowns packed away, the parties are all cleaned up...God will still be at work in Kyle's life and will have strengthened big brother and big sister even more in their own Christian walk. God is so good...His steadfast love never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is His faithfulness. Thank you, Lord, for all three of our beautiful blessings.
