George sat at his desk in the workshop wondering what he was doing here any way. These lawnmowers were a mess and needed so much work - Work that could have been prevented in most cases by proper maintenance.
Having come to the Philippines as a volunteer, his job a small engine mechanic was sorely needed at this school for missionary children. Now as he assessed the situation her found himself up against a mindset that always seemed to say, ”Why fix if its still running?”.
Here was this lawnmower that was running so rough and needed attention. Looking t the possibly problems, he noticed there was no air filter. When the filter got too dirty, the easiest solution was to throw it away and run it without one. Now the dirt was in the motor and needed major repair. This scenario was repeated time and again.
After getting them all fixed and setting a schedule for maintenance, George left for home.
A year and a half later on a return visit the situation wasn’t much better. This time a more ridged timetable for maintenance was put in place. As he left, he wondered if his work had been for naught again.
Old habits are hard to break and even though we know the benefits of change, we tend to repeat our old mistakes again and again. At times we pay dearly for not changing our ways. Not only in the material realm, but in our spiritual lives as well do we find this to be true.
We need to learn from past mistakes and mature so we don’t repeat the dame errors again and again. With Christ’s help this is possible.

The last two paragraphs make this into an excellent devotional.
I caught "ridged" instead of "rigid" and a few other edit-able errors.
Good job with this week's topic.
A good illustration.
It's easier for the reader if you put an extra space between paragraphs.
Keep writing.
