It had taken every bit of nerve I could muster and lots of prayer, but I was doing it. My friend had told me about the post abortion class after a visit to her home and I was immediately filled with an inexplicable need to take the class myself. Somehow, I just knew this was something God wanted me to do. The journey that followed was the biggest, scariest, yet most wonderful surprise that God has had for me in my Christian walk to date.
The night had come. I pulled up to the church with my heart pounding and talking myself out of the many reasons to turn around. This part of my life was so compartmentalized, locked away and I had forgotten where I even put the key. I obeyed God, however and found a seat outside the door. Eventually the door opened and I was greeted by my daughter’s Wednesday night church group teacher. Great! Thanks God! So much for anonymity!
My group filed in the door and after brief small talk we were instructed to tell our stories. My heart started to pound so loudly I was sure everyone could hear it. I don’t even remember much of what I said that night, but somehow I just knew that I would have to see this thing to completion. God was at work in a way I had never experienced.
The weeks that followed were something that I will never forget. God walked me through a journey of self discovery that I strive to explain in words. Unfortunately, I fall miserably short of describing His miraculous work. He stripped the layers of darkness shrouding my past away and I was overwhelmed by His forgiveness. His grace toward me, a sinner has never been more evident than it was those precious weeks. I will never be the same.
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned” Isaiah 9:2

I would have loved to read more about the narrator's experience--perhaps for another time. This was such a beautiful example of my favorite word: Grace.
