We as creation of God like every other thing that He created, are works of art and since we are created in the image of God, that artist in us is always craving for expression. Every day of our life is real Live Drama and is made up of various Acts and Scenes.
Some of us are privileged to have that latent gift in us stirred up for use to the benefit of humanity and to God’s glory.
I discovered my talent for drawing at a very early age, as back as I was a kid and was lucky to have been encouraged by my parents and my siblings. Though my mum could not fathom the shear time and concentration devoted to drawing, she did not discourage me. I started receiving gifts to help me develop my talents, which blossomed as I was asked to represent my school in art and writing exhibition in the elementary school. I was more fascinated by the human figure and portraiture and my favorite subjects were celebrities in the news journals and magazines.
Getting to high school only reinforced the love for art and indeed though as an above average student, I saw fine arts only as a hobby and nothing more, in spite of the encouragement I received. One of my friends and classmates who was very good and about the best in our school later studied art, graduated as an artist and became a successful advert executive. While I was adjudged the second best, I did not study art in college and it has always remained an extension of me and I had the vision of owning an art gallery. Today this dream has been fulfilled to the glory of God and it is dedicated to ministering through paintings and art works as well as for decoration and aesthetics.
My love for poetry started in the literature class in high school as I became fascinated with the works of Wole Soyinka, William Shakespeare and other great writers. I started experimenting with the written word.
Art easily affects the emotions, whether it is written material, drama, music, dance, painting, sculpture or designs. Many man made structures and objects begin from the conceptualization and design stage. When someone attains to the zenith of achievement in a trade or profession, the person is said to have mastered the art of doing or making that particular thing. This indicates the vital position art occupies in the life of man. We should be encouraged to bring out the artist in all of us, for many are latent talents waiting to be developed. As our Lord instructed in the parable of the talents, the more we make use of our talents, the more they blossom.
The development of tourism across the globe owes a great deal to art and without the appreciation of art, man will find life less beautiful than God desires it to be. The Landscapes can only depict the Sun, moon, mountains, hills, valleys, seas, rivers and greens of the trees and shrubs and flowers. Now we have cityscapes where the artificial meets nature and vice-versa.
“And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Gen. 1: 31 KJV)
