What is Art?

The word “art” often leaves us with the connotation of drawing or painting a picture when in reality there are many forms of self-expression that fall under this title. Maybe what you are doing is a form of art and you didn’t know that you were an artist.

Whether the self-expression is seen in the culinary art of cooking, the exquisite carvings of different mediums or the delightful drawings that grace many of our walls, art truly is the avenue whereby we can express our inner being. God had made each of us unique and it never ceases to amaze me at the variety we see.

Our world is very favorable to sports and academics and if one can’t excel in one of these areas, you just haven’t got it made. Many who are poor at sports, have a very keen mind when it comes to music or being an artist. God has given each of us a very special gift and we need to allow for these differences in our social circles.

It never ceases to amaze me that some of the most beautiful works of art come from those who are mentally challenged. Though they can’t get it when it comes to solving problems or planning agendas, they surely can produce when it comes to art.

It seems each one needs some avenue to express their inner self. Art just like sports, in one form or another is a wonderful venue for such an expression. As one relaxes and works on a favorite form of art, tensions ease and the mind relaxes as one rejoices in ones own creation. The gifts of art are truly a god given.
