As I homeschool, there is one phrase my children can repeat by heart. Like a parrot, I chirp,"If you can't present your thoughts in a clear,inspiring, grammatically correct format, you could be the wisest person on the planet, and it would be for naught. Like the man who buried his one talent in the sand, your gift would benefit no one."
Delving headfirst into a writing career, these words come back to haunt me. However, it is the power of the written word that inspires me to take that leap of faith. In fact, it is the written Word that inspires us all to hope, and hope progresses to faith. After all,"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."(Romans 10:17)This brings me back to the power of the written word, especially Holy Spirit inspired written word.
When it comes to powerful words, I can't help but think on the origin of the New Testament. It started simply as a collection of stories and letters, many of them created by uneducated fishermen. I doubt they knew the full impact of their written words, but we, the Christian writers of the world, know. It is the sole purpose of our writing; no, it is the "soul" purpose of our writing. It is why we live,eat, and breathe; it's the joy that gives our lives meaning.
While we abound in our zeal,let us not forget the source that feeds the power of our words. Even though our gift is God given, it can be a doubled-edged sword if not yielded correctly. The Nazi Germany propaganda that led a whole generation astray is an obvious demonstration of the power of the written word soiled.
Today, we experience more subtle examples. Revelations tells us the Anti-Christ lurks close by in our generation. We think of the Anti-Christ as a single person, but what about anti-Christ thinking? For a single person to succeed in this area, he will have the general consensus of the people. What does the word anti-Christ mean? It means anti-anointing, against the anointing. Not just agianst Jesus, but in opposition of what the Body of Christ is anointed to do. Before you yell,"No Lord, not I!",like Peter did prior to denying Jesus, we should all meditate on the true meaning and power of our words, whether spoken or written. By using our gifts for the wrong purposes in which they were intended or simply not using them at all, we too participate in that anti-Christ belief system.
The Holy Spirit has directed me to a foolproof way to keep from falling into that trap. I call them the "Whatever Rules" because they apply to every walk of my life, especially my writing. Like all Scriptures, they are simple words that explode in yoke-breaking power. They speak for themselves. Phillpians 4:8-9 says, "Whatever is noble,whatever is true, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent and praiseworthy- think about such things. Whatever you have learned, received,or heard from Me, put it into practice." If my writing meets these high standards,it will have Power.If not, they are just words.
