Three times He said it. One time the attacker said it. The third time He said it the attacker ceased and desisted.
77 times in all (if my count is correct) the Bible records, “It is written.” What is significant about this phrase? Why did Jesus use it in His defense against the attack of Satan (above)? Why did Satan try to use it as an attack against Jesus?
Contrary to the belief system of many, the Bible is unique among the millions of literary works that have been produced throughout history. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is the message from God the Creator to His creation. Its message deals primarily with the slice of eternity that we live in known as time. And it deals primarily with us people as the focus of a loving God. In it we find all that pertains to our existence, including our origins and our destination. It is an “operator’s manual” of sorts. God has given over to us the responsibility of operating our lives for the period of a lifetime, whatever length of time that is, and we desperately need what is written in the Bible whether we believe it or not.
The Bible is the written form of the eternal Word that spoke the universe into existence. That is a power second to none. It is pure truth. And truth is precisely what the father of lies (Satan) cannot withstand. When we confront his advances with the Word as did Jesus Satan will retreat. Because he knows the Word is pure truth sometimes Satan will try to mask his devilish scheming by misrepresenting the Word as he did with Jesus during His wilderness temptation. An intimate acquaintance with the Word, with what is written, will stand every follower of Jesus in good stead in a war that will be won.
“It is written” is significant because what is written in the Bible represents the great “I AM” as revealed to Moses in Exodus 3, the all knowing, the ever present, all seeing, and entirely self existing Creator God. The wise embrace it and fools reject it.

To bring home your point, consider adding an anecdote--perhaps a time when an intimate acquaintance with the Word has helped you (or someone you know) defeat Satan.
