That alone is all the reason I often cry out to God and question, “Lord, are You sure You are calling ME to stand up for You?” Sure, most likely I will not be one who impacts the world, but even this little section of the “world” right around me has still caused me to question if He’s got the right person.
It seems so easy to identify a person with leadership qualities in the world’s eyes. They have that take-charge personality and enjoys all of the attention they can get, never missing a chance to be heard. However, I do not fall in that category. I have definite passions and views about things, but I am quiet and rather shy. I even get nervous around groups of people at times and I absolutely do not like attention to be drawn towards me.
Who am I that God would want me to be a leader?
The truth is, I am His child and I am a voice for Him. He longs for those that are His to be willing to stand in the gap for Him and be His voice of love and truth to a lost world. This is the beauty of God that He so often chooses those just like me to accomplish His will: the unlikely, the lowly, the outcast, the undeserving.
Paul, the apostle, sinner of sinners who persecuted God’s people, tortured and killed those God loved and believed he had the authority to do it. He despised the things of God, yet by God’s compassion and mercy, he was the one God chose to demonstrate incredible leadership ability in starting the church, as we know it.
I find much comfort in knowing that just as I might fear or feel unqualified to lead, so did Paul, however God equipped him with all he needed. We can be sure that God will do the same for us.
These are the words of Paul in I Corinthians 2:4-5 (NIV):
“ I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith will not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.”
Anyone can be a leader. All it takes is a strong personality and the drive to make a change. However, to be the kind of leader that pleases God, it takes one who is willing to follow. A person who is willing to follow the leadership of the Savior who will give all that is needed to accomplish the task, one who understands that the weaknesses are the very place that God shows His glory.
Who am I? One who will gladly grasp with confidence the leadership qualities the Lord has entrusted to me believing God is able to accomplish all that He desires, yes, even in me.

What a wonderful and much needed reminder! Your article brought to mind the popular, yet ill-applied, quote: God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called! Thought provoking and well written entry! - Nancy
