Bailey stood back and looked at the sculpture before her. The finishing touches were finally complete and now that it was done, she felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment, but also a sense of loss because now it was finished, the anticipation she felt each morning when she woke up and headed to her shop, wondering if today was the day, had come to an end.
Bailey circled the piece, looking for one more stroke, one more swipe, one more small manipulation of the clay that would make it perfect, but almost in dismay, as she walked around it the second time, she saw nothing more that could be done... it was a masterpiece. So why, when she should be feeling such joy from her accomplishment, did she feel such disappointment and almost a sense of sadness?
As she gazed upon the statue, she wondered if maybe God had felt this way when He'd rested on the seventh day. Did He look upon His creation, knowing that it was good, but wondering if there was something more He could do to make it better? One more bird, one less spider, maybe a different color to brighten His world. Bailey put her tools down, lifted the strap of her apron over her head and hung it on the door, her work was complete.... now it was time to rest.
